An Income Tax Return is a crucial document through which taxpayers report their income and applicable taxes to the Income Tax Department. The Income Tax Act, 1961 outlines the available ITR forms and filing procedures.
ITR-1, also known as Sahaj, is designed for eligible resident individuals with total income of up to ₹50 lakh and is commonly used by salaried individuals.
LegallensIndia provides guided ITR-1 filing services, helping taxpayers meet their compliance obligations while simplifying return preparation and submission.
An Income Tax Return is a document used by taxpayers to report income earned and the corresponding tax liability to the Income Tax Department. It serves as a formal declaration of an individual or entity's financial information.
There are seven forms: ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5, ITR-6, and ITR-7. The correct form depends on income sources, total income, and taxpayer category, including individuals, HUFs, companies, and other persons.
Each taxpayer should file the applicable return on or before the specified due date.
ITR-1 Sahaj is a simplified return form for eligible resident individuals in India whose total income does not exceed ₹50 lakh.
The form covers permitted income from salary or pension, one house property, and other sources. It provides eligible individuals with a convenient way to disclose their income and fulfil their tax obligations.
ITR-1 is applicable to resident individuals who satisfy the prescribed income limit and source conditions.
Filing is mandatory where total income exceeds the basic exemption limit before claiming deductions under Sections 80C to 80U. Filing may also apply below the exemption limit when specified high-value deposit, expenditure, business, or professional conditions are met.
The due date for filing ITR-1 typically falls on 31 July of each assessment year. Filing within the deadline helps maintain compliance and avoid late-filing consequences.
ITR-1 Sahaj is organised into five parts and two schedules, followed by verification.
