Whether you are a small food vendor, home-based kitchen, restaurant, bakery, cloud kitchen, or a large food manufacturer, obtaining FSSAI Registration helps ensure food safety, builds customer confidence, and enables your business to operate legally.
Regulated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), this registration establishes food safety standards across the country and enhances the credibility of food businesses.
At LegallensIndia, we simplify the FSSAI Registration process by helping you choose the right registration category, preparing the required documentation, and obtaining your FSSAI Certificate quickly and hassle-free.
FSSAI Registration is a compulsory authorization for individuals and entities engaged in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, transportation, or sale of food products in India. It is governed by the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011.
Depending on the nature and size of the food business, businesses are required to obtain either FSSAI Registration or an FSSAI License. The registration ensures compliance with food safety regulations and demonstrates that the business follows the standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
FSSAI Registration is essential for every Food Business Operator (FBO) involved in the manufacturing, preparation, storage, transportation, distribution, or sale of food products.
FSSAI Registration provides legal recognition and establishes accountability for maintaining food quality and safety.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, FSSAI is responsible for regulating and supervising food businesses across the country. Its primary objective is to ensure that food products meet prescribed quality standards, eliminate food adulteration, prevent the sale of substandard food products, and safeguard public health by enforcing food safety regulations throughout India.
The following categories of Food Business Operators (FBOs) are required to obtain FSSAI Registration or License based on the nature and scale of their business.
FSSAI Registration is classified into three categories based on the annual turnover, production capacity, and operational scale of the food business.
FSSAI Basic Registration is applicable to Food Business Operators (FBOs) having an annual turnover of less than INR 12 lakh. It is generally suitable for small-scale food businesses, petty retailers, home-based food businesses, startups, and small food manufacturers.
The application for Basic Registration is submitted using Form A.
The FSSAI State License is applicable to Food Business Operators having an annual turnover between INR 12 lakh and INR 20 crore.
Medium-sized food businesses such as restaurants, manufacturers, distributors, storage units, and transporters generally require a State License. The application is submitted using Form B.
The FSSAI Central License is mandatory for Food Business Operators whose annual turnover exceeds INR 20 crore.
Large-scale manufacturers, importers, exporters, major retailers, food chains, and large distributors are generally required to obtain a Central License. Applications are also submitted using Form B.
The following categories of Food Business Operators are eligible to obtain FSSAI Basic Registration.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) are required to submit certain documents while applying for FSSAI Registration or License. The required documents may vary depending on the type of registration, but the following are generally applicable for Basic Registration, State License, and Central License.
Every Food Business Operator registered under FSSAI is required to comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Compliance is monitored through inspections conducted by Food Safety Officers.
The validity of an FSSAI Registration or License depends upon the type of registration granted to the Food Business Operator.
Renewal of FSSAI Registration is mandatory for Food Business Operators who wish to continue operating their food business legally.
The fees for FSSAI Registration vary depending on the category of registration and the size of the food business.
Food Business Operators (FBOs) can apply for FSSAI Registration through the official FoSCoS portal by following a simple online application process.
